This is the third book Lout has authored. The book was written with the aim in mind to inform, inspire, encourage and challenge any reader to live life fully, with purpose and vision. Recognizing that hardships, outward and inward, can be met and overcome, through faith in a great and compassionate God. There’s also particular excitement about this launch because the author goes in depth about his experiences, struggles, and triumphs through a narrative that opens up windows of hope, even in the face of extreme adversity.

Giants in the Rough sets its main focus on people, common African tribesmen, educators, medical and pastoral servants, and missionaries living imperfect lives in dependence on Jesus. Readers will likely find an element of surprise which catches the reader’s attention in a number of settings including the big Congolese, Aidini, whose bullying rage collides with great powers.

The book’s cover art was created by Rick Magley. Giants in the Rough is being released by Kindle Direct Publishers.

Jerry Lout, a Berkeley-born farm-raised boy afflicted twice with polio, has a background in International Missions, African Leadership Development, and International Student Ministry. This helped shaped the creation of the book by igniting a passion for Africa and allowing him to rub shoulders with the Giants he encountered in that distant land.

When asked about why he wrote the book, Lout said: ” to share bold accounts of influencers whose stories needed telling, to pass on a legacy to his family, to encourage believers, and to express a hearty witness to those yet seeking for something more.”

Lout has hopes that the book will inspire, challenge, and encourage many to serve both domestically and among the nations. This positive outlook from the author is certainly testament to his optimism considering his many technical challenges, having to work alone week after week, and even employing a writing coach to improve his writing ability.

In a recent interview, the author made a point of thanking Rick Magley, Jim Lassiter, Millard Parrish, Ann Lout, and RJ Thesman for their part in the creation of the book, saying: “Special thanks to writing coach and editor RJ Thesman, whose exceptional skills and counsel, aided greatly in bringing about GIANTS’ successful completion.” He acknowledges his wife Ann, who consistently encouraged and patiently endured his “hermit lifestyle at a keyboard in the room at the end of the hall.”
