Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

The process itself aims to alter people state of consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focusing the subconscious part. This heightened state of awareness – reached using skilled relaxation techniques – allows the therapist to then make appropriate suggestions.

Michele commented :” Hypnosis teaches you to more easily access a relaxed yet intently focused state at will. This mindful state can be used to change unwanted habits, overcome longstanding obstacles and unlock your deeper potential”.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnosis is usually considered an aid to psychotherapy (counseling or therapy), because the hypnotic state allows people to explore painful thoughts, feelings, and memories they might have hidden from their conscious minds. In addition, hypnosis enables people to perceive some things differently, such as blocking an awareness of pain.

This approach uses the relaxed state to explore a possible psychological root cause of a disorder or symptom, such as a traumatic past event that a person has hidden in his or her unconscious memory. Once the trauma is revealed, it can be addressed in psychotherapy.

And to accommodate people with busy schedules, Michele now offers secure online therapy.

As compared to face-to-face therapy, research suggests that online therapy for reducing symptoms such as anxiety, stress and depression has been found to be equally effective. After months of testing the concept with existing clients, Michele said “I want to give my patients options. With my new Online therapy service, they have a fresh new possibility via a secure online platform and the results are excellent”.

Michele chose to make this move because It offers the flexibility of meeting from people’s home or office, and to conveniently accommodate the client’s travel schedule.

The approaches she may use in her practice include, but are not limited to, the following: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Clinical Hypnosis, Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MCBT), and Energy Psychology.

For over twenty-five years Michele has enjoyed a successful private practice as well as offering services to hospitals and schools.

Recently she has been actively working with agencies such as the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA-Waterloo Wellington) providing psychotherapy through telemedicine and offering workshops on different topics such as depression, anxiety, stress and mindfulness practices. She created two 4-week programs intended for anyone who wants the skills to alleviate stress and manage symptoms of anxiety and depression.

She has also been working for “Caring for my COPD program” at the North Hamilton Community Health Centre and at the Community Health Center in Welland; a 10-week community-based program designed to enhance the quality of life for people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
